Update: Gracie is one of the dearly departed long-time PAH residents.

Grace is a very unique addition to the Peaceful Acres family. Grace is a Standardbred mare who suffers from a brain injury. Because of her injury, Grace holds her head to the side and her ears are lopsided. She has vision and depth perception problems as well as memory loss. Because of this, it is important that Grace is handled by experienced staff and volunteers. Despite her limitations, Grace desperately needs the attention of people because she is not always able to have the attention of other horses. Please consider sponsoring Grace and spending some much-needed time with her.

Updated: Grace lived out her retirement with us and helped us learn a lot about patience and understanding. Grace was at times unpredictable and very protective over her donkey friends. Our compassion and respect for the power of a horse grew through our care for Grace. We miss her.

(Pictured above) Grace with her donkey herd, including her long-time friends Lilly, Cookie and Starbuck. Daisy and Melody are among the friends too. Gracie loved being with donkeys more than other horses and was very protective at times over them, so we used caution, and knew that we had to keep one eye on this special horse. She had moments of gentleness and was absolutely beautiful. I’m thankful that she made her way to PAH, because she was hard to understand and would not have been treated well or rightly cared for for as long as possible like team PAH did. She left an impact on me and thinking of her now makes it so clear how greatly we are changed by our time with horses. -SL
