Update: Woz, Dixie, and the other original gentle giants of PAH lived out their retirement and senior years with us. They are among the dearly departed and truly missed.

Woz and Dixie:  These horses were work horses who had spent their lives working for people. They were over-worked and dumped in the kill-pen awaiting transport to slaughter. Peaceful Acres Horses responded to the call that they needed to be rescued within 24 hours, we drove four hours to NJ and when the PAH truck and trailer arrived at the kill-pen, Woz and Dixie happily entered the trailer.
WOZ was sponsored to freedom at PAH by Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computer. A long-time friend and supporter of Peaceful Acres Horses is also a friend of Steve’s, and he shared a little about what we do with him. It doesn’t surprise us that Steve Wozniak also loves animals! He was moved to make a difference in the lives of the drafts. Woz, the gentle giant, was given a freedom ride to live in sanctuary until health complications (Lymphedema) became too much for the humongous and special horse. Saying “Goodbye” is always difficult – with the giants it hurt in a giant kind of way. -SL

Update: both of these incredible gentle giants have since passed. They lived out their retirement with us here. The time we had with the giants was unforgettable. To be graced with the ability to find comfort and friendship among these huge horses has left an impact and appreciation for how special horses can be. As the herd of giants aged, health complications set in more as the years passed, it was devastating. A huge struggle PAH faces is that the residents often undergo short-term neglect or many years of it before coming to us, and that sometimes leaves lasting damage to their health. Woz and Dixie were a sight to see, a very big and spectacular sight. They are so very missed! -SL
