Waiting to be chosen by a Sponsor and Buddy.

There she was afraid and not knowing where she was or what would happen to her next. She was just one horse in a crowded pen with about 30 other fearful horses. She was in a “waiting pen”, a place that Peaceful Acres Horses would go to frequently to save horses (equines) before they were going to be tagged to ship for slaughter.

Advocates and Rescuers call it “the slaughter pipeline”. The slaughter pipeline is a hopeless time in a horse’s life when they leave a familiar place and fall into the control of dealers, auction barns and ultimately owned by a kill buyer who will ship the horse(s) to Canada or Mexico to be slaughtered for human consumption.

If you follow Peaceful Acres Horses on our social media pages, you have heard the stories, you have been on this lifesaving journey with us since 2007. Maybe you have donated to save a horse, mini, mule or donkey. Thank you – you are a lifesaver!

What you may not know is their individual stories, because once they are saved and safe at Peaceful Acres Horses, the emergency is over, and somehow their stories are not as enticing. They are ok, so everything must be ok.

But everything is not okay, nothing is easy, and without love, care, feed, and the dedication of kind, generous people, PAH can’t keep our promises to horses like Gabby. Maybe you are one of those people today who will offer some much-needed and appreciated financial support to Gabby.

Gabby followed me (Nanci) around the “waiting pen” that day, moving around and out of the way of other horses who were trying to get my attention. I believe the horses know what is next, they are willing to do almost anything to be recognized and saved. Gabby was persistent in her pursuit of me. She moved much larger horses away from me so she could rest her head on my shoulder. She literally captured me and my heart. She claimed me as her lifesaver that day by being sure that she was seen and heard. The little mare with a strong, diligent, and lovely heart.

Gabby chose me that day before she shipped to slaughter, she chose to be saved, to give it her all to be seen and heard. The message she now gives to people at Peaceful Acres Horses as she helps them to find their voice, their hope, and their life made bright, hopeful, and new. Gabby was saved from slaughter and now helps people feel comforted through their hurdles and emotional pain.

Gabby needs and deserves a sponsor
